Last year a lot of the major electronics company announced that they were working on an all digital SIM also called an eSIM.  The concept behind the new SIM standard is that it allows the device to switch between mobile carriers without having to replace the actual SIM card inside the device.  What’s more the size of the new SIM card is up to 90% smaller than nano SIM cards.  This week electronics giant Samsung announced that its new smartwatch the Galaxy Gear S2 Classic will come with the all new eSIM upgrade when comes into market sometime in March.

eSIM support shown by major mobile carriers

In its press release Samsung mentions various mobile carriers including Orange, Telefonica and Vodafone with more carriers set to sign up to the new standard in the coming years.  The new eSIM standard has also been designed with a range of popular hardware providers in mind including Microsoft, Huawei and LG, note how Apple is not mentioned, however the tech giant has mentioned that it is working on similar reprogrammable SIM cards.

Where is the Apple iWatch 2?

iWatch 2 What we know so far!!

Apple iWatch 2
When it comes to wearable technology Apple was probably one of those companies spearheading the development of new technology.  The Apple iWatch has been on sale for just over a year now and despite constant rumours and speculation of a new Apple iWatch 2 nothing has yet been confirmed.

Apple got everyone’s hopes up that there will be announcement of the new Apple iWatch in March time with a potential launch for around April/May 2016.  However, we may have to wait a little bit longer, in fact we’re going to have to wait an entire 6 months before we hear anything more about the new iWatch 2.

The announcement in March will instead focus on new brands for the iWatch, potentially new colours/materials and may also include Hermes-esque bands.  It is thought that the new iWatch 2 won’t be available until September 2016.

Apple is yet to hold its yearly launch event, and it is thought that in March we can expect to see the announcement of the new iPhone 6C and iPad Air 3.

iWatch 2 Design

After the success of the iWatch it is thought that Apple are experimenting with a whole host of new materials and colours.  These new materials will go beyond the Sports Steel and Edition schemes available and certainly the pricing of the new devices is looking more like £949 to £8000 for the most expensive variant of iWatch.

It is thought that the new iWatch will come with a Magnetic wristband that will provide additional functionality for the iWatch 2.  A facetime camera is also thought to be on board the new iWatch 2 enabling users to take and receive voice calls.

Apple is already working on the new watchOS2 which will include all kinds of additional functionality.

iWatch 2 Healthy Sensors and less iPhone reliance

It is certainly worth mentioning that in a recent interview Tim Cook, CEO of Apple hinted that they may make a device that is medically approved but it certainly won’t be the Apple watch.  That said, the rumour of the new iWatch being loaded with health sensors could well be correct despite Cook stating that the device will be very different from its predecessor.

The new iWatch 2 is also thought to be less reliant on the iPhone which is great news for fitness fanatics. Under a new project called “tether-less” it is thought that the new iWatch 2 will be self reliant and have its own range of functions that does not need to use the iPhone.

Better Battery Life

The iWatch 2 has also seen its battery life improved and according to rumours Apple is working with LG and Samsung to help produce a thinner OLED display for the second generation watch, this in turn will help increase the battery life of the device. The current iWatch only has enough battery for one day and after that it will need to be charged over night, like the iphone.

When it comes to fitness technology and certainly technology which is wearable Fitbit is the market leader.  At CES earlier this month they unveiled the all new Fitbit Blaze smart fitness watch.  It doesn’t have apps and can’t be called a fully fledged smart watch but it’s pretty darn close.

Fit Bit Blaze Many Screens

What sets the Blaze apart from its rivals is the octagonal shape of the face, in a world filled with squared and rounded faces this is one of the design features which really does make the device stand out on the shelves.  Equally it has been designed slip into different watch straps of different colours, materials and designs

Like it’s predecessors before it the FitBit Blaze sells itself primarily through being a very intelligent fitness tracker.  Tracking everything from steps and calories to sleep and even aerobic activities meaning you will never lose track of your workout.  The application for Fitbit is becoming more widespread with it being available on popular operating systems such as Windows and Windows Mobile.
